Utilization is Sky High in the Cloud

Nutanix Inc (NASDAQ: NTNX) designs and develops enterprise cloud platforms.  The company held its IPO in September of 2016 at $16 per share.  Short interest spiked to 27% of the float by November of last year, rising to 31% today.  The stock has been getting more expensive to borrow since November when the company announced negative earnings.  Today’s average borrow fee across the street is 45% with 100% utilization.  The dearth of supply signals pricing power to lenders.  Our desk is seeing small shows from both large banks and retail brokers, but it would be difficult (and expensive) to short in large volume.
